CBS adds NFL to ‘All Access’ streaming service, but mobile phones remain Verizon exclusive

CBS today announced a new deal with the NFL to bring its coverage of the league to its All Access streaming service available across a variety of devices including iPad, Apple TV, and the web.

Starting this weekend on December 4th, CBS All Access users will be able to view all of the network’s regular, preseason and postseason games going forward. But Verizon continues to have an exclusive on streaming NFL games to mobile devices apart from tablets, which means the new deal won’t open up the content to iPhone and other smartphone users.

Amazon and Seagate partner up on new Duet 1TB Hard Drive that automatically syncs your data to the cloud

From 9to5Toys:

In an attempt to simplify data backup, Seagate has announced the new Duet 1TB Hard Drive that automatically syncs all of its contents to Amazon’s cloud service. This partnership ensures that data is easily transferrable on-the-go while also taking the guesswork out of backing up your files. Setup is quite simple: plug the hard drive into your Mac or PC, sign into Amazon’s service and apply the included promotional code to claim your year’s worth of cloud storage (a $60 value).

Seagate Duet uses a typical mechanical 1TB hard drive, so you can’t expect lightning speeds here. But the ability to automatically backup your data to Amazon’s cloud with minimal fuss is certainly noteworthy. With news that Apple is potentially leaving the router business, this has the potential to convert some Time Machine users in the long-term if all goes to plan. The Seagate Duet is available for pre-order on Amazon with a December 10th ship date for $99.

What do you love & hate most about the 2016 MacBook Pro? [Poll]

The 2016 MacBook Pro has certainly proven to be one of Apple’s more polarizing products, with split views on everything from the all-USB-C ports to the low-travel keyboard. There have been debates about the sleek form-factor versus battery life, and whether the Touch Bar is a genuinely useful innovation or a pointless gimmick – and of course much discussion about price.

I’ve of course been sharing my own thoughts, as have my colleagues, but now that many of you have finally received your shiny new machines, we thought it would be a good time to poll owners and refuseniks alike to see what you consider to be the new machine’s best and worst features …

Crowdfunding campaign aims to create the perfect battery-pack for MacBook/MacBook Pro [Video]

While I’m sad to lose MagSafe, one benefit of using USB-C for power is that you can connect just about any external battery-pack to your MacBook or 2016 MacBook Pro if you need a boost to get through the day. An Indiegogo campaign which just got fully-funded has a particularly interesting-looking one which is specifically pitched at Apple’s laptops – starting at $149.

The Line Dock takes the form of an aluminum base unit designed to sit directly underneath your Mac. Available in 12-, 13- and 15-inch sizes to match the dimensions of Apple’s machines, it offers roughly 15 hours of additional battery-life. And for those mourning the loss of ports, it also offers 3 x USB 3.0 sockets alongside HDMI, MiniDisplay Port and an SD card reader …

Report: Apple developing indoor mapping features, will use flying drones to collect data for Apple Maps

Apple is looking to continue expansion of Apple Maps with new indoor location mapping features for 2017, such as airport and museum navigation, according to a new Bloomberg story. The company is also working on new turn-by-turn features, including improved directions to switch lanes whilst driving.

Perhaps most interestingly, the report says Apple plans to deploy a fleet of flying drones to help with data collection efforts for Apple Maps. The drones would be able to analyze street signs, track the status of roadworks and more. Apple does not plan to release a drone as a consumer item to compete with products like the Parrot Drone; the fleet would be for its own private business uses.

Apple Pay launches in Spain with Banco Santander as predicted; other cards too

Apple Pay has officially launched in Spain, as predicted in a report yesterday. The service is now available to customers of Banco Santander, with support for both debit and credit cards, alongside cards issued by Amex, Carrefour and Ticket Restaurant.

Apple lists 27 retail partners on its website, but with excellent support for contactless payments in the country, Santander said that Apple Pay can be used in around 75% of Spanish stores. It can also be used for online purchases on a range of websites …
