Fourth tvOS 10.2.2 beta for Apple TV rolling out

Apple has released the fourth tvOS 10.2.2 beta for Apple TV. The new tvOS beta allows developers who are registered with Apple’s developer program to test their apps on the upcoming software update for Apple TV.

Apple donating a portion of proceeds from Pride Edition Apple Watch band sales to LGBTQ advocacy groups

Earlier this month Apple started selling a special edition version of its Woven Nylon Apple Watch band called Pride Edition.

Featuring colors of the rainbow, the Pride Edition Woven Nylon band is very similar to the limited edition rainbow Apple Watch band gifted to employees who participated in last year’s San Francisco Pride parade.

Since making the Pride Edition Woven Nylon band available for anyone to purchase, Apple has updated its store page to say that a portion of sales from the Pride Edition bands will benefit LGBTQ advocacy groups.

Comment: Scott Forstall is right not to apologize for skeuomorphism, and has a point even today

In a Computer History Museum interview this week, Scott Forstall was unapologetic about the skeuomorphic designs used in early iOS versions – the famous leather, paper and metal textures used to make on-screen elements look like real-world objects.

Disagreements between Forstall and design head Jony Ive on the look of iOS were believed to have been one of the reasons for him leaving the company back in 2012 …

Foxconn narrowed US factory locations to seven states, will decide next month

Foxconn says that it is still planning to set up U.S. manufacturing plants in ‘several’ states, in a deal worth $10B. Some $7B of that investment is earmarked for display production, with the balance allocated to a mix of other products.

Foxconn chairman Terry Gou initially said that the company was looking at midwest states, before later naming seven states as candidates …
