Apple increasing production capacity for AirPods as availability issues persist

Since their release late last year, Apple’s completely wireless AirPods have been plagued by availability and supply issues. While they’re sometimes easy to find from third-party retailers, they’re still nearly impossible to come by in Apple retail stores and are carry a 6-week shipping window from Apple’s online store.

Tim Cook dodges question about Trump’s claim of US Apple plants, says company is committed to job creation

During the company’s Q3 earnings call this evening, Tim Cook finally addressed President Trump’s promise that Apple had agreed to build three “big, beautiful” production plants in the United States. While Cook was somewhat vague in his response, he explained that Apple is committed to the U.S. economy and looking how to expand its investments.

Live blog: Apple’s fiscal year Q3 2017 earnings call

Apple just announced its earnings for the third quarter of 2017, reporting profits of $8.72 billion on revenues of $45.4 billion. The company sold 41 million iPhones, 11.4 million iPads, and 4.29 million Macs.

Apple announces Q3 2017 revenue of $45.4b: 41m iPhones, 11.4m iPads, 4.29m Macs

Apple has announced its latest quarter results including $45.4b in revenue and $8.72 profit from 41m iPhones, 11.4m iPads, and 4.29m Macs sold.

FY17 Q3 results compare to the previous quarter’s $52.9 billion in revenue, $11.03 billion in profit, 50.7 million iPhones, 8.92 million iPads, and 4.19 million Macs. In the same quarter a year ago, Apple reported $42.4 billion in revenue, $7.8 billion in profit, 40.4 millions iPhones sold, 9.9 million iPads sold, and 4.2 million Macs sold.

Facebook working on an Android-based video chat device

Last year, Facebook poached Regina Dugan, the head of Google’s Advanced Technology and Projects, to lead a new hardware group. Building 8’s first products are now coming into light as a new report notes the development of a HomePod smart speaker competitor and a video chat device. For those that remember Mark Zuckerburg’s security advice from last year, the rumors of these new products come with some irony.
